Summary The PRO (professional) model is the most sophisticated. For the professional dealing with several thousand pounds-worth of gold per day this is not expensive and it has the most features.  Two modes, standard and enhanced.  Standard mode shows the nearest 'standard' carat: 8K or 10K (because it's American), 14K, 18K, 22K or 24K.  Also displays a bar graph showing how close it is to the standard carat. Enhanced mode shows the proportion of gold (in percentage) rather than the standard carats used in jewellery.  HOWEVER, this percentage reading isn't very accurate. It's good if you are buying dozens of items per day - before you send it to be melted retest everything in Advanced mode, calculate the actual gold value of the entire batch, compare it with how much you paid. If none of this applies to you (or if you don't understand it!) you will have no use for the Advanced mode and may wish to go for the ANALYSER model instead. See ANALYZER AND PRO COMPARED for details of accuracy when using the PRO in Advanced mode.  Want to know more about the PRO? See more information about the PRO including pros-and-cons, and hints and tips. Not sure whether to go for this model or the other model (ANALYZER)?  See ANALYZER and PRO compared. Detail Size 145 X 105 X 30mm (5.75 X 4 X 1.25 inches) No acids involved, the probe contains a harmless salt solution. Tests gold from 8ct to 24ct (the scale is marked "K" instead of "ct" because it's American) Pen-probe provides up to 5000 tests (then you buy a replacement pen-probe) Simply touch pen probe to the item, result is shown in 2 or 3 seconds, very fast Easy one-touch calibration with a sample of 18ct - not included  Works on battery or mains, mains adaptor (power supply) included) As with every tester (whether you spend £100.00 or £12,000.00) it only tests the surface. This means you must file the surface with a fine needle-file (supplied with each tester) in a place where it won't show, to remove any surface plating.  Guarantee: 1 year Extras INCLUDED WITH EVERY PRO (these don't come as 'standard'): Carrying pouch  Gold-polishing cloth Hallmark card UK power supply for mains operation If you order online (not by phone or email) you will also have the option of selecting a  free gift.  OPTIONAL EXTRAS: A pen-probe is included, if you want a spare, select it from "Optional Extras". You will need a sample of 18ct yellow gold to 'match' the electronics in the tester to the reading on the display (technical term: calibration). If you are a professional trader you will have some 18ct hallmarked yellow gold. If not, a special18ct calibration sample is available from us, see OPTIONAL EXTRAS. Every serious scrap dealer also uses acids. This is because electronic testers have limitations: they are not very accurate at testing high carat (20ct to 24ct) they are not at all accurate at testing white gold or for testing platinum they cannot test for silver We have a special acid tester for use with electronic testers that tests for the above, select one from OPTIONAL EXTRAS.  Video Limitations The PRO is for testing yellow gold found in jewellery. We would welcome feedback on how well it tests for gold in other forms (powder, granules, nuggets) but it is designed for jewellery...and it works best on yellow gold.  The PRO will not test high-carat accurately (in this case, 18ct to 24ct); it will not test white gold accurately; it will not test silver; it cannot distinguish platinum from Palladium. This is why every serious jewellery / scrap dealer also uses acids - they will cope with all of the above (see our  special set of acids for use with electronic testers, Q3-FOR-EGT) - all this said, if 90% of all your purchases are yellow gold up to 18ct and you're not bothered about buying the remaining 10%, then the PRO will cover all your needs. Pen-probe  A pen-probe is included with your purchase, if you want a spare, click on View Optional Extras.  The pen-probe is guaranteed for one month. A pen-probe is like a felt pen, if you don't replace the cap firmly it dries out. The manufacturers say it will give "up to 6000 tests". They also say it should be replaced after a year.  See more details about pen-probes. Disclaimer All testers must be used in conjunction with the user's skill, knowledge and experience. Under no circumstances shall QUICKTEST be liable for direct or indirect loss sustained in connection with any item. Nothing is 100% accurate, you must understand the limitations of any tester you buy. Full support given for items you buy from QUICKTEST. RELATED ARTICLES The other model is the Auracle ANALYZER.
